Slaithwaite and District Horticultural and Allotments Society

The Slaithwaite & District Horticultural and Allotments Society was established in 1906 and continues to hold its annual show in September each year. We are proud to be the main sponsor for this event, which will next be held on Saturday 2nd September 2023 in Slaithwaite Civic Hall. There are over 100 classes, featuring fruit, vegetables, flowers, baking, art & crafts and classes specifically for children. It is a true community event and is quite a spectacle of what can be grown or made locally.

Slaithwaite Christmas Lights

We support the Slaithwaite Christmas Lights. Henry, author of two cheese books and junior staff member, designed our very own GVG cheese-themed feature light which can be seen on Carr Lane every December.”

Slaithwaite Christmas Tree Festival

We are proud to participate in the Christmas Tree festival at St James church every December. Here is our 2022 entry, featuring Vicar Graham (also known as Father Hilarious) and some of our Green Valley Grocer’s cheese selection.

Sponsoring local Slaithwaite teams and groups

We sponsored the four Slaithwaite mens bowling teams for the 2015 season. The teams play in the Huddersfield league (Subscription Cup and Binns Cup), the Colne Valley League and the Mirfield League. In 2017 we sponsored the Under 10s Slaithwaite Saracens rugby league team’s kit. In 2018, we were proud to sponsor and participate as a fringe venue at the second Slaithwaite Art Festival.

Supplying the Huddersfield Giants

We are very proud to be supporters of the Huddersfield Giants rugby league club. We have supplied fresh fruit for training throughout the last few seasons and fruit baskets on Superleague match days. During the 2014 to 2017 seasons, we participated in the Giants’ Charity Cashback scheme where for every adult match ticket we sold, our chosen charity received a £5 donation from the Giants. In this way, we raised money for Slaithwaite-based “Be More Outdoors” in 2014, for Slaithwaite Community Centre in 2015 and for “Experience Community” in 2016 and 2017.
